Petes Tavern and Movie Tavern both closed after two people reported the dogs were roaming around the restaurant and patrons were afraid of the animals, police said on Thursday.
The owners of Petes and Petes Movie Bar have said they did not want to lose their patrons.
Police said they were called to the Petes tavern on Saturday and the restaurant was closed by 8:45 p.m. on Sunday.
“Due to the lack of customer traffic, the Peters Tavern has closed its doors for the time being,” a statement from the city of Petersburg said.
Officials from Petes said the owners are concerned about the number of people who visited the restaurant during the night.
“Due an increase in customer traffic we have closed the restaurant for a short period of time due to the increase in security at the restaurant,” the statement said.
The owners said they are not aware of any cases of dog bites.
Pets Tavern and Pete Movie Bar are located in the center of Collegeville, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of Atlanta.
The town is about 120 miles (190 kilometers) northwest of Atlanta and the town was once the site of a plantation.
